Samsung India launches Galaxy S8 and S8+ for Rs. 57900 and Rs. 64900

Samsung India has officially launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ at an event in Delhi today, as expected. These flagship smartphones were unveiled last month at an event in New York. The S8 and S8+ are the successors of the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The company has included the Iris Scanner along with Face Recognition and Fingerprint Scanner on the S8 and S8+ for added security and ease of unlocking the devices.

Samsung has also done away with the traditional hardware home button and thus the S8 and S8+ come with on-screen buttons that offer haptic feedback. The Korean giant has also introduced a new Smart Assistant named Bixby, which will offer personalized experience to improve the way people interact with their phones. According to Samsung, it is not only a voice assistant but an intuitive and comprehensive interface which will leverage contextual awareness to learn users’ habits and then respond accordingly. The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ feature a 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch (2960 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD+ Super AMOLED Infinity displays, respectively. These are always-on displays with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on both front and back. The S8 and S8+ have a pixel density of 570 PPI and 529 PPI along with screen-to-body ratio of 83.6% and 84%, respectively. These are powered by the Exynos 8895 octa-core processor with Mali-G71 MP20 GPU. They come with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of internal memory (UFS 2.1), which can also be expanded further up to 256GB by adding a microSD card. The devices run on TouchWiz UI based on Android 7.0 Nougat OS.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ feature a 12 megapixel Dual Pixel primary rear camera along with LED flash, f/1.7 aperture, OIS and 4K video recording with VDIS. It includes Pro, Panorama, Slow motion, Hyperlapse, Food mode, while the images can be saved as RAW files as well. On the front, there is a 8 megapixel secondary camera with f/1.7 aperture for clicking selfies and making video calls. They support Hybrid Dual SIM (nano + nano / microSD card) and are also water and dust resistant (IP68 certified).

In the connectivity department, the S8 and S8+ include 4G VoLTE, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (Dual Band) MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, ANT+ USB Type-C. The S8 packs in a 3000mAh battery, while the S8+ comes with a 3500mAh battery. However, both of them support fast charging via both wired and wireless (WPC and PMA) charging. These phones also come with a lot of sensors including Accelerometer, Barometer, Fingerprint Sensor, Gyro Sensor, Geomagnetic Sensor, Hall Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, Proximity Sensor, RGB Light Sensor, Iris Sensor and Pressure Sensor.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ is available in Midnight Black, Orchid Gray, Coral Blue, Arctic Silver and Maple Gold colors. The S8 has been priced at Rs. 57,900 while the S8+ costs Rs. 64,900 in India. It can be pre-ordered exclusively on Flipkart and Samsung Shop starting today but will go on sale from May 5, 2017. Customers pre-booking these phones will get a free Convertible Wireless Charger. Also, all Galaxy S8 and S8+ users to get Double Data offer on Reliance Jio on recharge of Rs. 309 (448GB of 4G data over 8 months).
